How to Back Up Seed Phrases Safely

Before Creating A Backup

Use the wallet's current official instructions and understand what the phrase recovers. Some wallets and account types use different recovery systems. Do not assume one phrase restores every imported account or every wallet product.

Safer Backup Habits

Record the words privately and offline, in the correct order.
Keep them outside screenshots, chats, email, shared notes, and cloud storage.
Prevent cameras, screen sharing, clipboard tools, and other people from seeing them.
Store backups where loss, theft, fire, and unauthorized access have been considered.
Do not type the phrase again merely to test an unfamiliar website or app.

Check That The Backup Matches The Wallet

Before relying on a backup, identify the exact wallet and account type it belongs to. Imported accounts, hardware wallets, passkeys, social recovery, and provider-managed accounts may follow different recovery models. Use only the wallet's current official recovery documentation; do not test a backup on a site found through search, chat, or an advertisement.

Keep a non-secret note of which official wallet documentation applies, but never place the recovery words in that note.

Stop Conditions

Stop if a person, form, browser page, direct message, or support account asks for recovery words. Verify recovery instructions from the wallet's independently located official documentation.
